VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS

BI-DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

BI-DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

Hawk Volleyball started this year off with a hefty goal, win state. Monday night they took a step towards their goal by claiming the title of Bi-District Champions.

Birdville Volleyball finished third place in their powerhouse district last week. Topping District 7-5A was Argyle, followed by Colleyville, and Grapevine rounding out the top four teams to advance. All four teams have played their Bi-District match and all four teams dominated.

Birdville faced up against the Joshua High School Owls. The Owls looked to be a comparative team on paper. The Owls had a 27-19 record while the Hawks were 27-13. Joshua took second in their district while Birdville took third. Monday, October 30th the two teams came together at Arlington Athletics Complex to face off in the Bi-District show down. The match up did not disappoint.

Joshua came out with an early lead in the match, winning set 1, 25-19. The Hawks offense was stunted by a solid blocking defense. The Hawks took their between game break and came back on the court for set 2 a different team.

Set 2 finished quickly, in the Hawks favor, with 25-17 score. Set 3 went even quicker with a 25-12 win for Birdville. Set 4 started off the same. The Hawks jumped out to a lead, breaking away at point 10. The Hawks dominated the next 6 points, but the Owls refused to quit. With the score 16-11, favoring the Hawks, the Owls started to scratch out point after point all the way until they held the lead at 19-17. After a well timed time-out by Coach Woody, the Hawks came back on the court with the determination to finish - scoring 5 unanswered points. Joshua continued to fight back but were unable to stave off the Hawks. Birdville took set 4, 25-23. With that win came the title of Bi-District Champions for the second year in a row.

Thursday, Birdville will match up against Aledo High School in the Area Playoffs. The match will take place back at Arlington Athletic Center at 5:30 pm. Winner will continue on in pursuit of the state title game.
