Baseball and Softball Fields to Receive Renovation

November of 2022, Birdville ISD tax payers approved Proposal A of Bond22. This proposal set out to enhance safety and security throughout the district including rebuilding  more seasoned schools, purchasing new property and renovating existing ones.

Part of the renovations and upgrades include brand new turf fields for all three high schools baseball and softball programs.

Birdville Baseball and Softball fields started their turf trek middle of June this year. Core samples have been taken and  surveys done. Construction is planned to start in August and expected to finish the project December 2023.

Athletic Director, Barry Norton, just finished his first year at the helm of Birdville ISD athletics and says he is excited for the much needed upgrades and grateful for our supportive community, “We are so thankful to have a community, board of trustees and administration that supports BISD athletics. We are really excited about the turf projects and what they will do for all of our programs.  As you know, spring sports are constantly having to work around weather issues and having to find places to practice as well as rescheduling contests.  Installing turf at the baseball and softball fields will eliminate many of the issues and provide for better and safer facilities for our student athletes.”

First year Birdville Head Softball Coach, Katie Welborn is looking forward to renovations on a field she herself played on. "I love this field and all the memories players have made on it over the past 24 years, including myself. I am so excited for the facelift though. This field looks the same as when I played on it, and as much as I love every bit of it, it's time these girls had something new to play on and be proud of."

Coach Vance Bonner who has been with Birdville Baseball for 20 years and the Head coach for 11 years is ready to see the new upgrades. Coach Bonner says, "These new turf fields are going to finally give our kids the same opportunity that the surrounding districts have had for a few years. It will provide more field and practice time that was often lost in a natural surface. It will also give us the opportunity to host home playoff games since now-a-days all coaches want playoff games on turf, so weather will not affect a playoff series". Birdville Baseball, who is a perennial playoff team, will continue it's legacy on new ground.

Along with the new turf fields, both teams will be receiving new pressboxes. All of these renovations should be completed by December of 2023 just in time for Hawk Baseball and Softball to kick off its 2024 Season.
